For 150 years, “fillings” were done with a mixture of silver and mercury with small amounts of other materials.  This was fine until the development of modern composite filling materials.  Tooth colored, durable and extremely strong, this is the material of choice for millions of patients.  They prefer not to be exposed to mercury which is a hazardous material in its elemental form.

Our office has not used “silver/mercury” amalgam fillings for over 35 years.
