Porcelain Veneers Maryland

Smile with a Natural Confidence

Porcelain veneers at our Maryland cosmetic dentistry practice are an excellent treatment for aesthetically flawed teeth because they appear so natural. The enamel on teeth is translucent, meaning that light is able to pass through it and reflect off the dentin underneath. This gives it a lustrous shimmer that is hard to replicate with resins or other materials. Fortunately, the porcelain used in veneers mimics the light-reflecting properties of tooth enamel, allowing our doctors to create the most life-like restorations possible.

By utilizing veneers, Drs. Martin G. Abel and Shannon E. Abel are able to conceal spaces between teeth, make uneven teeth appear more uniform, help protect cracked or chipped teeth, and restore discolored or worn-down teeth to their original allure. When it comes time for pictures, you can forget about hiding your teeth and smile with confidence.

If you are interested in having porcelain veneers bring a new shine to your smile, contact our Maryland cosmetic dentistry practice. Our dentists will be happy to help you with this or any other dental needs you may have.

The Steps of Treatment

Consultations with our dentists help to determine whether porcelain veneers are the right choice for a patient and his or her needs. Once a treatment plan has been agreed upon, our dentists discuss with patients how the veneers will look, including size, shape, and color. After these decisions have been made, the actual procedure begins.

The first step is to remove a thin layer of enamel from the teeth receiving the porcelain veneers. This is so the veneers can fit onto the teeth and have a natural shape. An impression of the teeth is taken once they have been shaped, which is then delivered to a professional laboratory off-site. Using advanced technology, the mold of the teeth is used to create a one-of-a-kind set of porcelain veneers for the patient. After the impression has been taken, the patient is then fitted with a temporary set of veneers to protect the teeth until the second stage of the procedure.

Once the new porcelain veneers arrive from the laboratory, they are used to replace the temporary veneers. The permanent veneers are secured onto the teeth and reshaped if necessary to achieve a better bite.

Keep in Mind…

Veneers are a long-term solution, but they will need to be replaced eventually. With proper care, they can last for ten years or more, but they are more susceptible to chipping in the event of trauma than healthy original teeth. Some patients report increased tooth sensitivity after treatment, but this is normally temporary.
