Dental bridges are an excellent way to replace missing teeth, providing more stability than removable dentures but forgoing the invasiveness of a dental implant. By using crowns to support natural-looking artificial teeth, a bridge fits seamlessly with surrounding original teeth to restore a smile. Whether it’s someone you have known forever or a new acquaintance, they will be hard pressed to find any flaws in your smile once you have been fitted with the dental bridges we use at Smiles by Design in Maryland.

After consulting with our dentists and deciding to pursue a dental bridge, the teeth on either side of the gap where the tooth is missing are prepared for the placement of crowns. An impression of the empty space and the shaped teeth is taken, which is then sent to a lab where a custom bridge is professionally made. While the new teeth are being made, a temporary bridge is set in order to keep the reshaped teeth healthy and undamaged.
After the dental bridge has been returned to our office, the temporary bridge is replaced with its permanent counterpart. This new bridge is then set in place and modified to strengthen fix the bite, if needed.
Patients looking to restore missing teeth can find plenty of reasons why they should choose dental bridges:
Dental bridges might not be the best solution to tooth loss for every person – only one to three missing teeth can be replaced with a bridge, and the natural teeth supporting the bridge have to be in a good condition. It’s also important to consider that dental bridges are fixed and not removable without professional aid, which means that extra care must be given to them while cleaning and maintaining the prosthesis at home. Still, with proper care, bridges can last for 15 years or longer.
